Civil and military awards on August 14, Shahbaz Sharif withdraws his name, tribute to military and political leadership

Islamabad: Prominent civil and military figures were awarded Pakistan’s highest awards in a prestigious ceremony held at the Presidency on the occasion of Independence Day. At the ceremony, President Asif Ali Zardari gave awards to those who have rendered outstanding services to the country. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif voluntarily withdrew his name from the list of ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’, while all the other names were approved.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was awarded the ‘Hilal-e-Juraat’ for his outstanding military leadership in difficult circumstances, while General Sahir Shamshad, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar and other top military officials also received major awards. In the political leadership, Ishaq Dar, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Khawaja Asif, Mohsin Naqvi, Atta Tarar and Rana Sanaullah were awarded the ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz’ for their important services to the country.

On this occasion, the President said that these awards are for those sons of the nation who set an example of leadership, unity and courage in difficult times.
