Karachi: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning that heavy rains are likely to occur in Sindh from August 24 to August 28, putting the citizens of Karachi and Hyderabad at risk of urban flooding.

Heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected in Hyderabad for one to two hours, which may cause waterlogging on the roads and affect the traffic system. Similarly, a heavy spell of rain has been predicted in Karachi for one to one and a half hours, which may paralyze civil life and disrupt power supply.

The NDMA has strictly directed the citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, not to go near poles and electric wires, while reviewing the drainage arrangements in homes and neighborhoods in advance.

It has been further stated that residents living in low-lying areas should keep an emergency kit ready, which must include drinking water, food, flashlight and first aid, so that immediate help can be provided in any emergency situation.
