Punjab government implements garbage tax under the Clean Punjab program

Lahore: To improve the sanitation system in Punjab province, the government has implemented a “garbage tax” under the Shatra Punjab program. In the initial phase, this tax has been applied only to posh areas and commercial centers.

According to the details, a monthly tax of Rs 300 will be collected on five-marla houses in urban areas and Rs 200 in villages. For ten-marla houses, this amount has been fixed at Rs 500 in urban areas and Rs 200 in rural areas. For one-kanal houses, a tax of Rs 1,000 has been set in urban areas and Rs 400 in rural areas.

Similarly, two to four-kanal houses will be charged Rs 2,000 per month and houses above four kanals will be charged Rs 5,000, while only Rs 400 has been fixed for houses larger than two kanals in rural areas.

A rate has also been fixed for shopkeepers.  Small shopkeepers in urban areas will be charged Rs 500, medium shopkeepers Rs 1,000 and large business centers Rs 3,000, while small shopkeepers in villages will be charged Rs 300, medium shopkeepers Rs 700 and large centers Rs 2,000.

The Lahore Waste Management Company has started distributing garbage tax bills and its revenue and operational team will collect the bills.
