Lahore: Pakistan Railways has taken a historic step towards providing modern travel facilities in the country and announced that for the first time, a bullet train will be operated between Lahore and Karachi. This project is part of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgrade under CPEC, which will cost $6.8 billion.
The bullet train will run at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour and the 20-hour journey between the two cities will be completed in just 5 hours. Major stops like Multan, Sahiwal and Hyderabad have been made on the way. The fare will be from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, which is a great convenience compared to air travel.
Officials say that this project will start in 2026, testing in 2029 and regular launch in 2030. 10 to 15 trains will be operated daily, which will provide jobs to thousands of people and increase commercial activities. Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that the bullet train will give a new direction to Pakistan’s economy and the quality of travel will be at par with world standards.
