Lahore tops world pollution list as AQI soars beyond hazardous levels

According to the Global Environmental Index, Lahore once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities on Wednesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 540, which is considered a very dangerous level for human health.

According to the data, air pollution crossed all limits in many areas of the city. An AQI of 890 was recorded on Sanda Road, while 784 was recorded on Zahoor Elahi Road. Similarly, the index reached 762 on GC University Road and 752 on Syed Murtabat Ali Road.

On the other hand, the air situation in Karachi also remained alarming, and with an AQI of 163, the city was ranked fifth among the world’s most polluted cities.

According to environmental experts, an AQI from 151 to 200 is considered harmful to health, 201 to 300 is considered extremely harmful, while an index above 301 is considered a direct threat to human health. Citizens have been instructed to avoid unnecessary outings and use masks.
