The government of Pakistan has announced a significant reduction in the prices of petroleum products from January 1, 2026, under which the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 10.28 per litre and High Speed Diesel (HSD) has become cheaper by Rs 8.57.
According to the new rates, petrol has been fixed at Rs 253.17 per litre, while diesel has been fixed at Rs 257.08 per litre, which will remain applicable till January 15. The government has taken this decision in light of the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to economists, this price reduction may provide relief to the general public, especially the middle and lower classes, in daily transportation; however, fluctuations in global crude oil prices are likely to change prices again in the future.
