In view of the Basant festival in the provincial capital, the Punjab government has further tightened security measures to protect the lives and property of citizens. The administration has made it clear that installing safety rods on motorcycles will now be mandatory and legal action will be taken against violators.
According to police officials, citizens riding motorcycles without safety rods will not be limited to fines only but regular cases will also be registered against them. Cases have been registered against several people in different police stations of Lahore in this regard.
Sources say that these cases have been registered on the complaint of the police and action is being taken against the violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with violation of government orders.
Officials say that precious lives have been lost in Basant in the past due to rope swings and other accidents, so this time special safety measures are being adopted to avoid any untoward incident. Citizens have been instructed to immediately install safety rods on their motorcycles.
On the other hand, important decisions have also been taken regarding Basant preparations. The Punjab government has allowed the festival to be celebrated in a limited and controlled manner and has issued instructions to the relevant agencies to strictly implement the security, traffic and safety plan.
According to the administration, Basant will be allowed in Lahore on February 6, 7 and 8, while indiscriminate action will be taken against those who violate the prescribed rules.
