Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian has once again made it clear that Iran has no intention of giving up its right to enrich uranium. He says that this right is a fundamental part of Iran’s national interests and nuclear programme, and the international community must finally recognise this fact.
Addressing a public event, President Peshkeshian said that in recent times, different international positions have emerged regarding Iran’s nuclear programme; however, Iran’s position has been consistent and clear. According to him, Tehran has always emphasised that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and is being conducted within the framework of international laws.
Referring to the recent statements of US President Donald Trump, he said that a change in Washington’s stance can be seen. According to President Peshkeshian, the US leadership has started to understand that some of Iran’s fundamental rights cannot be completely ignored.
The Iranian president said that in the past, various demands and pressures were placed on Iran, but the current situation shows that matters can be better advanced through diplomatic processes. He expressed hope that the parties involved in the talks will proceed constructively and succeed in reducing differences.
He also emphasized that Iran wants to continue developing its scientific and technological sectors. According to him, the uranium enrichment program is important for the country’s energy, research and industrial development, which is why it is seen in the context of national sovereignty.
President Pezzekian also mentioned domestic political issues in his speech. He said that some groups are not happy with the process of political stability and economic improvement in the country. He criticized such elements, saying that they try to push the country towards an uncertain situation.
He added that the main goal of the Iranian government is to improve the lives of the people, promote economic development and strengthen national unity. According to him, it is necessary to prioritize national interests despite political differences.
According to international affairs experts, the Iranian president’s recent statements indicate that Tehran, rather than showing flexibility in its stance on the nuclear issue, considers it a fundamental point of negotiation. That is why this issue may remain central in future negotiations.
President Pezhakian concluded his discussion with the hope that the ongoing diplomatic contacts will lead to positive results and new opportunities for peace, stability and economic cooperation will be created in the region.
