Investor confidence improved on the last day of the trading week at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), as a result of which the main market indices closed in the positive zone. Buying trends in the banking, cement and fertilizer sectors supported the market.

According to official data, the KSE-100 index remained volatile throughout the day after opening at 176,405.33 points. During the session, the index touched a high of 177,108.67 points and a low of 175,934.99 points. At the close of the market, the index closed at 176,094.12 points, up 546.13 points or 0.31 percent from the previous session.

Business activity also remained buoyant, and the total volume of shares of companies included in the KSE-100 was recorded at 210.43 million shares. Although the index has declined by 2.33 percent overall since the beginning of the financial year 2025-26, it is still up 1.17 percent during the calendar year.

Shares of Engro, Habib Bank, Lucky Cement, Bank Alfalah and Askari Bank played a prominent role in the market rally. On the other hand, shares of Efet, UBL, Habib Metro Bank, JVDC and Maple Leaf Cement exerted negative pressure on the index.

Meanwhile, the KMI-30 index also managed to show positive performance. The index opened at 248,196.56 points and reached a high of 248,981.52 points during the trading session, while the low was 246,959.86 points. At the end, the index closed at 247,198.06 points, representing a gain of 628.83 points or 0.26 percent.

The trading volume of shares of companies included in the KMI-30 was 71.10 million shares. The index has recorded a decline of 3.94 percent since the beginning of the financial year and a decline of 0.54 percent during the calendar year.

Engro, Lucky Cement, Meezan Bank, Pakistan Refinery and Pakistan Petroleum showed positive performance in this index, while shares of Effet, Maple Leaf Cement, Attock Refinery, Mari Energies and Hub Power were under pressure.

According to market experts, buying in selected sectors at the end of the business week supported investor confidence. Next week, investors will keep an eye on economic indicators, corporate financial results and policy decisions, which can play a significant role in determining the future direction of the market.
