Pakistan Stock Exchange ended on a negative note on Tuesday. The benchmark KSE-100 index fell 993.92 points due to selling in shares of major companies. Investors’ cautious strategy in the market was prominent throughout the day.

The KSE-100 index opened the session at 173,504.31 points. The index touched a high of 173,736.20 points due to buying in early trading. However, this lead could not be sustained for long and selling pressure subsequently increased.

The index also touched a low of 171,490.63 points during the trade. At the close, the KSE-100 index closed at 172,642.16 points. Thus, a decrease of 993.92 points or 0.57% was recorded compared to the previous level.

The trading volume of selected shares of the index stood at 225.24 million shares in the market. The KSE-100 performance during the current financial year was negative 4.25 percent while the overall performance during the calendar year was negative 0.81 percent.

Despite the dip, a few prominent stocks supported the index. PSEL’s positive contribution was 97.35 points. MCB contributed 76.45 points, ATRL 25.94 points, FFC 21.04 points while CNERGY contributed 14.60 points positively.

On the other hand, UBL was the biggest negative contributor to the index, contributing a negative 181.43 points. LUCK contributed 136.78, MEBL 75.63, NBP 47.55 and PPL 44.14 points.

The same trend was observed in the KMI-30 index. The index closed down 1,413.60 points or 0.57 percent at 246,107.08 points. During this period the trading volume of selected shares stood at 95.44 million.

Market data showed that selling pressure prevailed over buying at the end of the day. However, differences in the performance of different sectors and companies were also significant, revealing the impact of large companies’ shares on the overall market direction.
