Due to security arrangements in the federal capital, teaching activities in 24 government educational institutions will be suspended from September 22. The relevant institutions will be used to temporarily house security personnel.
According to sources related to the education department, additional police personnel are arriving in Islamabad from different areas. It has been decided to use selected government schools and colleges to accommodate these personnel.
The institutions to be closed are located in different parts of the city. These include some schools and colleges of G-6, F-6, F-7, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-13, I-9 and I-10. Some educational institutions of Tarnol, Sanjani, Sihala, Bari Imam, Malpur, H-9 and Rawal Dam will also be affected.
According to the administration, this decision is not for educational institutions in the entire of Islamabad. Apart from the institutions included in the list, other schools and colleges will remain open as usual. In Rawalpindi too, according to the report available on September 21, it is reported that educational institutions will remain open as usual.
Principals and non-teaching staff will remain on duty in the campuses to be closed. On the other hand, students and teachers will not be required to come to the institutions. According to the available information, no clear policy has been revealed yet regarding online classes or alternative educational arrangements.
This decision is part of the wider security arrangements made in Islamabad in view of the political protest activities. Containers are being placed on important routes and places in the city. Security has also been tightened in the Red Zone. However, according to a report, all routes to and from Islamabad were not completely closed by the evening of September 21.
PTI has announced an Islamabad march on September 27. Jamaat-e-Islami and Kisan Ittehad have also announced protest programmes in the capital. In view of these activities, arrangements are being made to bring security personnel from different cities to the capital and station them.
The administration’s temporary closure of 24 institutions is aimed at arranging accommodation for security personnel. The important thing for students and parents is that this decision is limited to specific institutions, so other educational institutions will work as per the normal schedule.
