Business activity picked up on Wednesday at the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and the KSE-100 Index closed at 172,232.51 points, up 830.43 points.
Trading opened at 171,843.51 points. The index also reached a high of 172,762.41 points as the buying trend continued in the early and later sessions.
According to the final data, the KSE-100 rose by 0.48 percent. The better performance of some large and prominent stocks in the market supported the overall index.
Fatima Fertiliser was the biggest contributor to the increase in the index, contributing 167.36 points. United Bank, Meezan Bank, Attock Refinery and Engro Holdings were also among the companies that played a role in keeping the market direction positive.
On the contrary, MCB Bank, Pakistan State Oil, K-Electric, Bank Alfalah and National Bank recorded a decline. The negative performance of these companies also maintained pressure on the index.
The total trading volume in shares linked to the KSE-100 was recorded at 274.87 million shares. The index’s performance in the current fiscal year was 4.48 percent negative, while a decrease of 1.05 percent was recorded on a calendar year basis.
On the other hand, the KMI-30 index also completed a positive session. The index closed at 246,825.53 points after gaining 2,160.35 points or 0.88 percent. Its highest level during the day was 247,244.37 points.
Fatima Fertiliser made the highest positive contribution to KMI-30 with 322.65 points. Meezan Bank, Attock Refinery, Pakistan Refinery and Engro Holdings were also among the significant gainers.
On the other hand, Nishat Mills, Maple Leaf Cement, DG Khan Cement, Sapphire Textile and Honda Cars were prominent among the negative stocks of the index.
The trading volume of shares related to KMI-30 was 115.50 million shares. The index recorded a decline of 4.08 percent during the current fiscal year, while the decline was 0.69 percent on a calendar year basis.
Overall, the major market indices remained in the positive zone in Wednesday’s session. However, the performance of shares across sectors was not uniform, indicating that along with the buying, there was also selling pressure in some stocks.
