Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has expressed disappointment over the prime minister’s conditionality of the talks, saying that permanent lines are not drawn between the parties in politics.
Talking to the media at Parliament House, Barrister Gohar said that talks should always be held in an open atmosphere. According to him, instead of linking the talks to any preconditions, efforts should be made to resolve political issues at the negotiating table.
The PTI chairman said that the party’s long march is ongoing and the purpose of the talks was to find a way to end it. He said that even if the long march reaches Islamabad, talks will have to be held to resolve the demands.
He clarified that the PTI had taken several difficult decisions to enter the process of talks. According to him, starting talks was not easy, and political issues take time to resolve, so it is not appropriate to expect immediate results.
Barrister Gohar also denied meeting Mohsin Naqvi last night. He said that instead of hiding what happens in talks or political meetings, he clearly explains it.
Referring to the arrest of the sisters and cousin of the founder of PTI, he said that these incidents have created bitterness in the political environment. According to him, the path of talks should not be closed even in the current situation.
The PTI leader said that he would meet Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in Peshawar. He said that it is necessary to discuss political demands even after the long march reaches Islamabad.
According to Barrister Gohar, the purpose of the talks is not just a meeting but to achieve practical progress on the demands. He said that the solution to political differences will ultimately have to be found through talks.
His statement comes at a time when the negotiation process between the government and the PTI is under pressure due to political tensions. The behavior of the parties and the situation of the long march in the next few days are likely to clarify the future direction of the negotiations.
