The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an important clarification for pensioners, stating that the non-issuance of a ‘Proof of Life’ certificate during September will not be grounds for withholding pension payments.
According to NADRA’s Public Information Officer, Syed Shahab Ali, the government has made no decision to suspend the pensions of those who fail to obtain the certificate by September. He stated that there is no basis for the concerns circulating in this regard.
NADRA is facilitating the issuance of ‘Proof of Life’ certificates to retired employees in collaboration with relevant government departments. The system aims to simplify the verification process—particularly for elderly pensioners—thereby sparing them from unnecessary bureaucratic procedures.
According to the Authority, if a pensioner’s certificate is not issued in September, their pension will not be stopped solely for this reason. This clarification applies to retired personnel of the armed forces as well as pensioners from federal and provincial government departments.
NADRA further clarified that retired employees whose respective departments have not yet finalized the necessary arrangements with NADRA for this facility will not be deprived of their pensions simply because the certificate has not been issued.
NADRA officials stated that the introduction of the ‘Proof of Life’ certificate facility aims to make the identity verification process for pensioners less cumbersome. It will assist elderly citizens, in particular, in fulfilling pension-related requirements through a more convenient method, eliminating the need for repeated visits to various offices.
