Bilawal Bhutto Inaugurates Phase One of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway in Karachi

The first phase of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway was launched by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari today at the Qayyumabad Interchange in Karachi, Pakistan, on January 11, 2025. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari personally drove his car on the newly constructed portion of the highway and shared a Rs. 100 toll fee as CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah followed him in order to show support for the project that aims to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance travel throughout the city. During the event, CM Murad Ali Shah spoke of the constant and multiple times failure to complete the expressway by saying that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has envisaged this project and the new infrastructure projects solution, including the Lyari Expressway and more, has been introduced three decades ago.

Apart from the inauguration of the expressway, a 9.1 km stretch of the Malir Expressway from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal was partially taken into use. CM Shah said the Malir Expressway was the biggest PPP project in Sindh, which is measuring 39 kilometers from Korangi Creek Avenue to the Malir River. It is believed that these developments will considerably decrease travel time, minimize congestion, and enhance integration in Karachi city. Through these projects, the Sindh government wants to address the promises made in the past to transform the urban fabric, develop efficient trade corridors, and respond to needs to upgrade the quality of life of citizens while strengthening Karachi as a business city.
