Pakistan has decided to respond to India’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has made it clear that Pakistan will give a “Turkey-by-Turkey” response to any aggressive move by India, and the forces are fully prepared to meet any challenge. At a press conference with federal ministers, he rejected India’s claim of unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, saying, “The move is a flagrant violation of international law.”

Ishaq Dar revealed that India did not make any mention of the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty in the D-Marsh notice issued to Pakistani Nazim Alamur, while the Indian cabinet had announced its suspension. “India cannot unilaterally terminate this agreement. If they do so, Pakistan will consider suspending other agreements, including the Simla Agreement, “he said.

Pakistan has taken a number of diplomatic and defense measures against India, including the immediate closure of the Wagah border, suspension of all commercial activities, ordering Indian defense, naval, and air advisers to leave the country as undesirable, limiting the staff of the Indian High Commission to 30 people, and closing Pakistani airspace to Indian aircraft.

Criticizing the Pahalgam incident, the foreign minister said that if India has evidence of Pakistan’s involvement, it should present it to the international community. “Indian intelligence agencies are supporting them,” he said, citing evidence of the presence of foreign elements in Srinagar. Pakistan has cancelled the visas of Indian nationals, but the restrictions will not apply to Sikh pilgrims.

Ishaq Dar said Pakistan would inform the World Bank about the violation of the Indus Waters Treaty and make its stand clear at international forums, including the United Nations. “Pakistan does not need any external assistance to respond to any aggression,” he asserted.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif made it clear that “if India undertakes any adventure, its fate will be worse than in in the past. He accused India of promoting terrorism in Pakistan by sponsoring organizations like BLA and TTP.
