LAHORE – April 27, 2025 – The Punjab School Education Department has officially announced the commencement of summer vacations for all government and private schools across the province from June 1, 2025. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the rising temperature and the impending heatwave. However, officials have warned that if the intensity of the heat increases, the holiday schedule may also change.
Holidays will begin on June 1. Secretary of School Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo said that if the temperature rises unexpectedly, the holidays will be started early, keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers. He stressed that the decision was taken keeping in mind the growing challenges of climate change, including the increase in heatwaves across Pakistan.
The announcement came after an alert issued by the Meteorological Department (PMD), which said that from April 27 to May 1, southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan may record 5-7 degrees above normal temperatures. From April 27 to 30, temperatures may rise by 4-6 degrees in central and upper Punjab, including Lahore. The authorities have advised the public, especially children, the elderly, and those working in the open air, to avoid the sun in the afternoon hours, drink as much water as possible, and wear light clothes. Farmers have also been advised to change the timings of wheat harvesting.
