ISLAMABAD: According to the current party position in the Senate, the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) has become the largest political party with 23 seats. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) came second with 19 seats. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has 16 seats.
The PPP has a total of 24 seats in the Senate, but a vacancy after the death of Senator Taj Haider has reduced their current strength to 23. Similarly, one of the 17 seats of PTI is vacant due to the resignation of Senator Sania Nishtar, after which 16 members of the party are present in the Senate.
The Senate has five members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Pakistan, four from the Balochistan Awami Party, and three from the Awami National Party. There are three senators from the MQM, one from the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and one from the National Party. There is also a representative each of the Pakistan Muslim League and the Sunni Unity Council. Six members are free.
There are 11 vacant seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Because there was no Senate election conducted. In addition, the death of Senator Taj Haidar and the resignation of Senator Sania Nishtar have left 2 more seats vacant, after which a total of 13 seats are vacant in the Senate.
