PPP Confirms PML-N Seeks Support for 27th Constitutional Amendment

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has confirmed that a delegation of PML-N Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met him and President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which has garnered significant support from the PPP.

Bilawal said the proposed 27th Amendment includes several sensitive reforms, including the formation of a Constitutional Court, restoration of executive magistrates and powers to transfer judges. It also includes provisions affecting NFC awards, possibly reducing provincial financial reserves, and proposes changes to Article 243.

According to Bilawal, the amendment aims to restore federal control over education and population planning and end the deadlock over Election Commission appointments.

He announced that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting will be held on November 6 after President Zardari’s return from Doha, in which the party’s decision will be finalised.

Political analysts believe that the PPP’s stance could prove decisive in shaping the future of the proposed amendment, which could redefine the balance of federal and provincial power in Pakistan.
