Modi’s provocative statement is a clear violation of international norms: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD— The Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson has termed the recent statement by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as provocative, irresponsible, and regrettable, saying that such threats are a clear violation of international laws and treaty principles.

The spokesperson said that the Indian Prime Minister’s talk of weaponizing resources like water is a deviation from international norms and such statements are a serious threat to peace and stability in the region. The spokesperson also made it clear that a leadership that wants respect in the world must first be accountable for its language and intentions.

The Foreign Office said that the ideological supporters of the current Indian government have made hatred, prejudice, and oppression of minorities a part of political policy. Such statements are made especially during election campaigns only for political gain, but the entire region has to bear the brunt of them.

The spokesperson appealed to the Indian people, especially the youth, to reject hate and militant politics and move towards a future based on peace, dignity, and mutual cooperation.
