The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended the first trading day of October in the negative zone. The local market was also cautious due to increasing global uncertainty and concerns about energy prices.
At the end of the trading session, the KSE-100 Index fell by 1,332 points to 168,636 points. The market was volatile during the day. The index continued to move in a band of about 2,100 points, which indicates the cautious strategy of investors.
However, business activity in the stock market continued. A total of about 540 million shares were traded. The total value of these transactions was Rs 17 billion. On the other hand, the total investment value of the market decreased by Rs 151 billion, after which the market capitalisation was reduced to Rs 18,776 billion.
Global geopolitical conditions have also emerged as a major factor in the current market trend. In the context of tensions between Iran and the United States, concerns persist about the availability and prices of crude oil and diesel in the global market.
Significant changes in global energy prices are of direct importance to Pakistan. The country imports a large part of its energy requirements. Therefore, if oil becomes expensive globally, import bills, transport costs and inflationary pressures may increase.
These concerns are also affecting the decisions of stock market investors. In such an environment, investors usually decide their strategies by keeping in mind global developments, oil prices and domestic economic data.
Despite the downturn on the first day of October, the turnover of 540 million shares indicates that there was activity in the market. The direction of the global energy market and the geopolitical situation will remain important factors for the trend of the Pakistan Stock Exchange in the coming days.
