Investors faced volatility in the Pakistan Stock Exchange during the last business week.
At the end of the week, the KSE 100 index closed at 170,765 points. During this time, a slight decrease was recorded in the index, while the overall market value also fell.
According to the data released on the last day of the business week, the 100 index was 119 points lower than the end of the previous week.
Although the decline was limited, the market continued to move at varying levels throughout the week. During this period, the index touched a high of 172,762 points, while its low was 169,890 points.
The difference between the high and low of the index during the week was 2,871 points. This fluctuation reflects the movement of share prices in the market. However, the performance of all sectors or individual companies cannot be estimated from the movement of the index alone.
The total value of the stock market also saw a decline. During the week, the market capitalization decreased by Rs 41 billion to Rs 18,996 billion. Market capitalization refers to the total value of shares of companies listed on the stock exchange. Changes in it can also affect the value of the overall portfolio of investors.
It is important for investors to understand weekly data, as they help in assessing the general trend of the market. However, the performance of any one week is not a guarantee of future trends. Share prices can be affected by various economic, financial and business factors.
According to last week’s data, the Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a limited weekly decline along with significant volatility. The index remained above the 170,000-point level, while the overall market capitalization recorded a decline.
