The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has announced that based on scientific calculations, Eid-ul-Adha is highly likely to be celebrated in Pakistan on Wednesday, May 27. The council further noted a strong possibility that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will mark the religious festival on the same day this year.
Scientific Data on Moon Sighting: Secretary General Khalid Ejaz Mufti stated that the birth of the new moon will occur at 1:15 AM PKT on the intervening night of May 16 and 17. By the evening of May 17, the moon’s age will exceed 18 hours in most parts of the country, making it suitable for sighting.
Potential Scenarios Meteorologists suggest that if the weather remains clear on the evening of May 17,
- The 1st of Zil-Hajj will fall on May 18.
- Eid-ul-Adha will subsequently be observed on May 27.
- In case of cloud cover or poor visibility, Zil-Qadah will complete 30 days, pushing the 1st of Zil-Hajj to Tuesday, May 19.
