Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that ending the ongoing tension with the US will be possible at a time when Iran strengthens its position in the field or when the two countries reach an acceptable solution through negotiations.
In an interview given to Iranian media, Abbas Araghchi said that the effective stage of diplomacy and negotiations during any war is when the relevant country has achieved significant strategic successes on the war front. According to him, a strong diplomatic position is always linked to the situation on the ground.
He said that the state leadership should make decisions regarding the lives and property of the people and the future of the country with utmost responsibility and after a thorough assessment. According to him, it is necessary to avoid such steps at any stage that create unnecessary risks.
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that the government should constantly assess whether the potential benefits of continuing the war outweigh its human, economic and political costs.
Abbas Araqchi said that although Iran suffered various losses during the recent conflict, according to him, the country also demonstrated the strength of its state system and defence capability, due to which Iran emerged as an effective regional and international power.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the US has tried to negotiate with Iran on various occasions, and Washington is willing to keep the doors of diplomatic contacts and discussions open in the future.
Relations between Iran and the US have been tense for the past several years, but both countries have made statements supporting diplomatic talks from time to time. According to experts, any positive development in the regional situation will depend on the future diplomatic steps of both countries.
