Concerns have arisen regarding fuel supply in Lahore after the Petroleum Dealers Association announced a strike; however, officials say that not all petrol pumps in the city will be closed and petrol and diesel will be available as usual at several locations.

According to the Lahore Petroleum Dealers Association, about 375 petrol pumps affiliated to the association will remain suspended during the strike. On the other hand, about 150 petrol pumps run by oil marketing companies will remain open as usual, where citizens will be able to get fuel.

Association President Jahanzeb Malik says that the aim of the protest is to effectively convey the problems and demands faced by petroleum dealers to the relevant authorities. According to him, the dealers want attention at the government level to resolve their concerns.

On the other hand, the district administration and relevant institutions have started reviewing the fuel supply situation in the city. Officials say that there is no immediate fear of a complete fuel shortage in the city as petrol pumps run by oil marketing companies remain operational; however, the situation is being monitored continuously.

Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary storage of petrol and only get fuel as needed. Authorities have also advised people to be cautious about unverified information circulating on social media to avoid unnecessary rush and anxiety.

People associated with the transport and business sectors say that if the strike continues for more than one day, it could have an impact on public transport, freight and commercial activities. According to experts, in such circumstances, timely negotiations between the government, oil marketing companies and petroleum dealers can play an important role in normalising the situation.

Citizens have also demanded that both sides find a solution to the problem through early negotiations so that fuel supply is not affected and daily routines can continue without interruption.
