Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has said that it is necessary to implement all points of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the US, especially those clauses related to a ceasefire in Lebanon and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Speaking to the media in Baghdad, Abbas Araqchi said that Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon are still ongoing, although according to him, the aim of the agreement was to reduce tensions and pave the way for an end to the war. He said that since Israel had also accepted the MoU, all parties should fulfil their responsibilities.
According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Washington should use its diplomatic responsibility to put pressure on Israel to stop the ongoing military operations in Lebanon. He added that the initial clauses of the agreement also included the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied territories of Lebanon, which has not been fully implemented so far.
Political observers say Araqchi’s statement comes at a time when the security situation in the Middle East remains volatile and there are intermittent tensions on Lebanon’s southern border. According to them, if the agreement is not fully implemented, diplomatic efforts in the region may face further challenges.
According to analysts, diplomatic activities by the United States, Iran and other regional parties in the next few weeks will determine the extent to which the chances of reducing tensions in Lebanon and progressing on the agreement increase.
