Announcing significant relief for teachers and other staff assigned to examination duties, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has approved an increase of up to 50 per cent in compensation for various categories. Thousands of teachers and officials who serve in the examination process every year will benefit from this decision.

According to the decision issued by the Lahore Board, the daily compensation of superintendents, deputy superintendents, supervisory staff, mobile inspectors, distributor inspectors and practical examiners posted in examination centres has been significantly increased. Board officials say that the aim of this move is to acknowledge the services of the staff associated with the examination system and to make the transparent examination process more effective.

According to the announcement, the daily remuneration of the superintendent has been increased from Rs 1,560 to Rs 2,340, while the deputy superintendent will now be paid Rs 1,800 per day instead of Rs 1,260.

Similarly, the daily remuneration of the supervisory staff performing supervision duties in the examination halls has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500, which is equivalent to an increase of about 50 per cent.

The Lahore Board has also significantly increased the remuneration of other officials who ensure examination transparency. Under the decision, the daily remuneration of the mobile inspector has been increased from Rs 1,080 to Rs 1,620, while the distributor inspector will be paid Rs 1,800 instead of Rs 1,200.

Teachers involved in practical examinations will also benefit significantly from this decision. The board has increased the remuneration of practical examiners from Rs 1,540 to Rs 2,310, which is being termed as a significant development in the context of the nature of examination responsibilities and increasing professional responsibilities.

Controller of Examinations Lahore Board Tauseef-ur-Rehman, while commenting on this decision, said that the increase in the remuneration of examination staff has been made in recognition of the hard work, honesty and valuable services of teachers in the examination system. According to him, teachers and other examination staff play a fundamental role in the transparent, organised and timely conduct of examinations; hence, their encouragement was indispensable.

He said that better remuneration will not only provide financial support to teachers performing examination duties but will also help them in carrying out examination responsibilities with more seriousness, sense of responsibility and professional standards in the future.

Educational circles have welcomed the decision of the Lahore Board, saying that due to inflation and rising costs over the past few years, there was a need to review the remuneration of examination duties. According to them, the new rates will motivate teachers and will also promote the participation of experienced staff in the examination system.

Education experts say that the role of examination staff is very important in the transparent conduct of examinations. Such measures not only strengthen confidence in the examination system but also serve as a practical expression of recognition of the professional services of teachers.
