The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the moon of Muharram 1448 AH was not sighted anywhere in the country, after which 1st Muharram will be observed on Wednesday, June 17, while Ashura will be observed on June 26.
The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at the historic Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, in which members of the committee, representatives of the Meteorological Department and relevant institutions participated.
During the meeting, a detailed review of the testimonies received from across the country and the weather conditions was taken. Later, addressing a press conference, Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said that no confirmed testimonies of moon sighting have been received from any part of Pakistan.
He announced that 1st Muharram 1448 AH will be on June 17, while 10th Muharram, the Day of Ashura, will be celebrated with religious devotion and respect on Friday, June 26.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad thanked the scholars, committee members and relevant institutions for maintaining the atmosphere of national unity and solidarity on this occasion and said that all decisions regarding moon sighting are taken on the basis of Sharia principles and authentic testimonies.
With the beginning of Muharram across the country, arrangements are being finalized for holding gatherings, processions and other religious events.
