PDMA issues high alert for entire Punjab

The Meteorological Department has warned against thunderstorms, strong wind and showery rainfall in different areas of the country, including Punjab, during the next five days and has asked people to take precautions. Experts say the ongoing monsoon spell will see the weather remain pleasant in many cities, but urban areas and areas close to rivers and streams could encounter problems as well due to heavy rains in those regions.

After the recent rains in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and different districts of Punjab, there has been a significant decrease in the intensity of heat. The intermittent downpour of rains is expected to persist over the coming days, accompanied by clouds, strong wind and thunderstorms, which will maintain relatively cool and pleasant weather, according to the Meteorological Department.

The present temperature in Lahore is 27 degrees, and the maximum is expected to reach up to 32 degrees Celsius, according to the meteorological officials. Strong wind, heat and humidity may further reduce, due to which the citizens may get some respite for a while.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has sent an alert to all district administrations, the Garmaherd (rescue) units and other departments to make the required arrangements to face the disaster situation, if necessary, in view of the threat of continued rains. In some areas, there is a fear of increased water flow in rivers and canals and accumulation of water in low-lying areas.

Authorities have called on citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel during the rainy season, cautioning against going near electricity poles, rain drains and other dilapidated structures or flooded roads. The parents have also been advised against letting children play in the fast-running drains or rainwater.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to closely monitor the weather conditions and the directives issued by the government to take precautionary measures in time in the event of any weather condition.
