Punjab CM Takes Swift Action Against Police Officer for Assault on Elderly Citizen in Multan

Lahore: The suspension and subsequent arrest of a Multan police officer occurred when footage emerged showing him physically abusing an elderly resident. Maryam Nawaz who serves as the Punjab Chief Minister immediately responded to the incident where she instructed that the officer should face disciplinary action and required a full investigation report from the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police.

The incident has led CM Maryam Nawaz to voice her profound concern while labeling it as a disturbing unacceptable act. The law does not grant police officers permission to apply force against citizens. All police personnel need to show both respect and dignity towards members of the community. Police receive honor besides every individual in this society has equal honor.

The Chief Minister vowed to safeguard the dignity of each resident of the province saying “I share the distressing feelings of every person regarding their self-respect.” Any oppression or mistreatment of ordinary people will have my full opposition.

The Chief Minister expressed great concern after examining the video documentation of that assault. She conveyed to the public that under her leadership such mistreatment would receive no tolerance and required additional preventive measures.

This event has revived discussions about abuse from police personnel and the requirement for law enforcement reforms to establish both accountability systems and professional practices.
