Rising Flour Prices Deepen Inflation Woes for Pakistani Consumers

The continuous increase in flour prices in Pakistan has added to the problems of the people worried about inflation. According to reports received from different cities, flour prices are touching new heights day by day.

In Multan, a 15 kg bag of flour is being sold for Rs 1,550, while the price of loose flour has reached Rs 120 per kg. According to shopkeepers, due to the non-availability of government flour, the market has become completely dependent on private supply, which is making it difficult to maintain a balance in prices.

In Peshawar, the price of 20 kg of fine flour has reached Rs 3,100, while mixed flour is available for Rs 2,950. Flour dealers say that due to the shortage of wheat, a further increase in the coming days is not out of the question.

The situation is more worrying in Quetta, where a 50 kg bag of flour has become more expensive by Rs 1,000 in a month, to Rs 6,500. Citizens say that this basic daily use item is now getting out of their reach.

Although prices are relatively low in Punjab, citizens here too fear that flour may soon become more expensive.

Citizens say that it has become impossible to make a budget by hearing new prices every few days. Many domestic consumers have demanded that the government ensure the availability of flour at official rates.

According to experts, if wheat supply, action against hoarding, and price monitoring are carried out effectively, flour prices can be stabilised; otherwise, this crisis may deepen.
