Bangladesh’s big decision: Team will not travel to India for T20 World Cup, security concerns persist

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken an important and blunt stance regarding the T20 World Cup and made it clear that the national team will not travel to participate in the event in India, while an alternative proposal has been made to hold matches in Sri Lanka.
According to sources, an important meeting was held between Bangladesh Sports Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul and the national cricketers in which detailed consultations were held on the team’s security and other matters. At the end of the meeting, the Sports Advisor told the media that the government has taken the players into confidence and has taken a unanimous decision that it is not safe to go to India in the current circumstances.
Dr. Asif Nazral said that Bangladesh wants to participate fully in the field of sports, however, the safety of the players’ lives and property is the most important. He said that the ICC has been informed of our concerns but so far no adequate assurance has been given.
He added that no serious offer has come from the Indian government regarding security, due to which concerns remain.
The Sports Advisor said that Bangladesh has proposed a hybrid model to the ICC under which the team can play its matches in Sri Lanka. According to him, Sri Lanka can be a safe and acceptable alternative venue.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Aminul Islam said that the board is completely committed to its position and the matter will be taken to its logical conclusion. He said that it is Bangladesh’s right to prioritize the safety of its team.
Cricket experts say that if Bangladesh does not participate, the schedule and arrangements of the event may be affected, which may require the ICC to take new administrative decisions.
It should be noted that the T20 World Cup is considered one of the world’s major cricket events and Bangladesh’s participation is considered very important for fans. Now all eyes are on the ICC’s upcoming decision on whether it will accept Bangladesh’s concerns or not.
