Senior leader of the Muslim League (N) and former federal interior minister Rana Sanaullah has severely criticized founder PTI and said that he has been using every meeting of his to create a narrative against state institutions, which is why the court has fixed a regular procedure for meetings.
Talking to the media, Rana Sanaullah said that the Islamabad High Court has set clear rules regarding meeting prisoners to prevent any kind of political or anti-institutional propaganda. He said that respect for the law and court decisions is mandatory for every political party.
He alleged that the founder of PTI has been making statements after meetings in the past that are used against state institutions, which creates tension in the political environment.
Talking about the country’s governance, Rana Sanaullah said that empowering district governments is the need of the hour. According to him, the constitution clearly states that powers should be transferred to local governments so that public problems can be solved at the grassroots level.
He said that until the district administration is given financial and administrative autonomy, it will not be possible to provide basic facilities to citizens. “The solutions to the problems of the people can come not from Islamabad or Lahore but only at the local level,” he said.
The former interior minister also expressed concern over the recent fire incident in Lahore’s Gul Plaza and said that a thorough investigation should be conducted into the tragedy. He said that it should be found out who approved the additional floors of the building and when the construction was carried out.
He demanded that if any negligence or illegal construction is found, those responsible should be held accountable so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
According to political observers, Rana Sanaullah’s statements reflect the government’s policy on current political and administrative issues, while the powers of local governments and issues of citizen security may gain more importance in the coming days.
