The federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27 in Pakistan is likely to be presented in the National Assembly on June 12, with an unprecedented surge in financial and political activities in the country.

According to parliamentary sources, the budget session of the National Assembly has been summoned at 5 pm tomorrow, while the Senate session will also be held at 4 pm on the same day. The sessions of both houses have been summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which are part of the budget presentation process as per constitutional requirements.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has confirmed that the federal budget is likely to be presented on Friday, June 12. According to sources, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the budget in the National Assembly, in which the fiscal strategy, revenue and expenditure and development priorities for the upcoming fiscal year will be finalised.

According to economic experts, this budget is being presented at a time when Pakistan is facing challenges such as severe financial pressure, rising debts, IMF programme conditions and weak economic growth. In this context, the budget session is not just a constitutional proceeding but also a major policy test.

Political and economic analysts say that the government has to maintain fiscal discipline on the one hand, while striking a balance between public relief and development spending on the other hand will also be a major challenge.

The opposition is likely to face strong criticism and policy questions during the budget session, especially regarding inflation, tax burden and distribution of development funds.

Thus, the federal budget of June 12 will not only set the direction for the fiscal year 2026-27 but will also have a profound impact on the future of Pakistan’s economic policy.
