The Punjab government has approved a new programme for teaching interns at the college level, under which more than 8,000 internship posts have been created. The move will provide immediate financial support to young teachers and help reduce the teaching gap in colleges.
Intermediate-level interns will be given Rs 55,000 per month and BS-level interns Rs 65,000 per month. The duration of the internship has been kept at seven months for intermediate and ten months for BS. On completion of the period, the interns will also be provided with an experience certificate.
To ensure social inclusion, quotas have been allocated for minorities, persons with disabilities and the transgender community. This fund will not only be used for the stipend of the interns but also for administrative expenses. The government says that this programme is a major step towards the development of young teachers and increasing the teaching capacity of the province.
