Islamabad— Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has strongly dismissed the “fake and baseless” threat alerts circulating in Indian media regarding the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. In a statement issued today, Tarar labeled the reports as “false, fabricated, and part of a malicious propaganda campaign” orchestrated by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI).
The minister accused Indian media of spreading misinformation about the Champions Trophy under the influence of the BCCI, which, he claimed, is unable to digest the successful hosting of ICC events in Pakistan. “The Indian media’s baseless propaganda against Pakistan is a reflection of their frustration. The BCCI is behind this smear campaign, as they cannot tolerate the fact that Pakistan is successfully organizing international cricket events,” Tarar stated.
He further emphasized that the Indian board’s attempts to sabotage sports in Pakistan are “condemnable” and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety and success of the Champions Trophy. “Pakistan has proven its capability to host international events, and the enthusiasm of fans during recent matches, including the Australia and England games, is a testament to our passion for cricket,” Tarar added.
The minister highlighted that the return of international cricket to Pakistani stadiums is a victory for cricket lovers worldwide. He pointed to the overwhelming response from fans during the recent Australia-England match as evidence of the country’s ability to host world-class events.
Tarar’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between the cricket boards of India and Pakistan, with the BCCI yet to confirm its team’s participation in the Champions Trophy. The Indian media has been rife with unverified reports of security concerns, which Pakistani officials have consistently denied, calling them part of a deliberate campaign to undermine Pakistan’s efforts.
Pakistan is set to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country’s cricketing revival. The government and cricket authorities have assured all participating teams of top-notch security arrangements and a warm welcome.
