Heavy fines and license suspension for violation of traffic rules in Lahore

The provincial government approved the summary sent by the Lahore Traffic Police, after which strict action is being taken against violation of traffic rules in the city.

Under the new rules, now the minimum fine for each violation is Rs 2,000 and the maximum is Rs 20,000, while the driving licenses of repeat violators will also be suspended.

According to sources, if a driver gets 20 points deducted in a year, his license can be suspended for 2 months to a year.

Earlier, fines ranged from only Rs 100 to Rs 500 for various violations, but now the fines have been significantly increased.

According to the new law:

Overspeeding will attract a fine of Rs 2,000 to 20,000 and 4 points will be deducted.

Breaking the signal will attract a fine of Rs 2,000 to 15,000 and 4 points will be deducted.

One-way violation will attract a fine of Rs 2,000 to 15,000.

Rush driving will attract a fine of Rs 3,000 to 15,000 and use of a pressure horn will attract a fine of Rs 2,000 to 10,000.

Traffic police officials say that citizens should prove themselves as civilized citizens by following the rules, so that accidents and congestion in the city can be reduced.

Analysts say the move is a timely decision for major urban centers like Lahore, as stricter rules were the need of the hour in view of the increasing number of vehicles and the increase in accidents every day. According to experts, if these rules are implemented effectively, not only will accidents decrease but the tendency to respect traffic rules among citizens will also increase.
