The Pakistan Super League administration has officially approved the renaming of the Sialkot Stallions franchise to Multan Sultans, bringing back the identity of South Punjab. This was confirmed by Pakistan Super League CEO Salman Naseer.
Speaking to media representatives, Salman Naseer revealed that the change was made after a formal appeal by the team’s administration. He explained that while the franchise was being negotiated, the league had allowed the team to choose one of the six approved options. The name Multan Sultans was finalised as per the league’s regulations after the request.
The PSL chief also spoke about the growing excitement among cricket fans. He noted that supporters are eagerly awaiting the new season, and all operational arrangements are in full swing. He confirmed that Lahore will host the opening ceremony and the first match of the tournament, setting the stage for what promises to be a grand start.
Multan Sultans CEO Gauhar Shah welcomed the decision and said that he was proud to see South Punjab represented once again. He explained that highlighting his region at the national level was one of the main motivations behind acquiring the franchise. According to him, keeping the Multan Sultans’ name alive in the PSL was of utmost importance.
He further said that success in the PSL requires a strong vision and effective leadership. Citing the team’s past performance, he admitted that the losses had hurt both the supporters and the management alike. However, he assured the fans that every possible step would be taken to improve the team’s results and ensure a competitive performance in the upcoming season.
Gauhar Shah also said that strengthening the franchise not only benefits the team itself but can also play a positive role in Pakistan’s overall cricket ecosystem by promoting talent and professionalism.
Team owner Hamza Majeed highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving long-term goals. He expressed confidence in his collaboration with Gauhar Shah and described him as a cricket enthusiast with a sharp business acumen. He said the partnership is focused on providing both performance and pride to the fans.
As preparations continue and excitement grows across the country, the PSL is once again set to capture the attention of cricket fans, with Multan Sultans ready to compete under their restored identity.
