Nushki incident: Condemnation of the attack on the polio team; President and Prime Minister announce they will deal strictly with terrorists

ISLAMABAD: The incident of firing on security personnel during the anti-polio campaign in the Nushki district of Balochistan has once again challenged the national resolve. One policeman was martyred, and another was injured in this tragic incident. Condemning the incident, President Asif Ali Zardari said that the complete eradication of polio from the country is a national duty, and we will not back down from this mission.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the attack intolerable and said that the attack on the staff who ensure the safe future of the nation’s children is an unforgivable crime. He expressed his determination that the miscreants who act against the polio campaign will be dealt with an iron fist.

According to the District Health Officer, the polio campaign in Noshki has been temporarily suspended following the incident. However, the government’s response shows that acts like terrorism cannot stop the polio eradication campaign.
