Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has said that his party has always imposed an emergency under constitutional and legal procedures. He also stressed the need for joint efforts and political dialogue against terrorism.
Talking to the media in Karsaz Karachi, Bilawal Bhutto termed the Karsaz tragedy as a tragic event in the history of Pakistan. He said that all political forces must jointly confront the threat of terrorism facing the country.
The PPP chairman said that if Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi does not play an effective role against terrorism, the PPP will play its role. He said that the lowering of the national flag cannot be allowed in any part of Pakistan.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the federal government has decided to form a committee for electoral reforms, and the opposition has also been invited to join this process. He said that if the opposition is serious about ending terrorism and the issue of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it should come forward for talks.
Referring to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto said that he has the right to criticise the government’s policies. However, according to him, the presence of terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot be denied.
He stressed that it is in the larger interest of the country to create a national consensus against terrorism and resolve political differences through talks.
