Pakistan’s military leadership has confirmed large-scale retaliatory operations along the Pak-Afghan border following recent tensions.
Speaking at a press briefing, DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that Pakistani forces targeted militant hideouts during the nights of February 21 and 22.
He alleged that the Afghan Taliban regime carried out what he described as a “miscalculated action”, claiming to target Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan positions.
Strong Counter-Response
The military spokesperson said Pakistan responded “forcefully and proportionately” wherever attacks were launched.
According to official figures shared during the briefing:
- 274 militants were killed
- Over 400 were injured
- 18 Afghan posts were taken over
- 115 tanks and armored vehicles were destroyed or captured
He added that Afghan forces used small and heavy weapons, including quadcopters.
Casualties Among Pakistani Troops
Lt Gen Chaudhry confirmed that 12 Pakistani soldiers were martyred during the operation, 27 were injured, and one remains missing.
He stated that Pakistani forces carried out operations in several Afghan regions, including Kabul and Kandahar, targeting individuals involved in facilitating cross-border terrorism.
Taliban Must Choose: Pakistan or Militants
In strong remarks, the DG ISPR said the Afghan Taliban regime must choose between Pakistan and militant organisations, including the banned TTP, BLA, and Daesh.
He further accused the Taliban government of supporting proxy militant groups.
“The nation is proud of its armed forces,” he said, adding that Pakistan reserves the right to defend itself against any aggression.
