The government of Pakistan has introduced a complete online system for tracking passport applications with the aim of facilitating applicants and bringing transparency in the process.

Under this new system, citizens can check the status of their passport application online through SMS or on the DGIP website using the token number and CNIC.
For example, applicants will be given an 11-digit token number, which they will send to 9988 via SMS and will receive the current status of the application on their mobile phone.

An online tracking portal is also available at DGIP.gov.pk where users can check the progress of their application by entering the token number and other necessary information.
Officials say that this system will save applicants from the time and burden of unnecessary visits usually required, as well as bring transparency in the passport issuance and delivery process.

Another important thing is that the SMS tracking service has been reactivated through 9988 to make it easier for those who have limited internet access.
Moreover, facilities like e-Passport Fee Asaan are already available through which users can submit passport applications online and pay fees online
