Cape Town: The third day of the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa concluded with Pakistan showing resilience after being forced to follow on. The visitors scored 213 for the loss of one wicket in their second innings, following a disappointing first innings total of 194 runs.

In the first innings, Pakistan struggled against South Africa’s bowling attack, with Babar Azam scoring 58 and Mohammad Rizwan contributing 46. However, their efforts were not enough to avoid a follow-on, as Pakistan trailed by 451 runs.

Starting their second innings under immense pressure, Pakistani openers Shan Masood and Babar Azam displayed exceptional determination. The pair built a remarkable 205-run partnership, marking Pakistan’s first century opening stand in Test cricket since 2022.

At stumps on Day 3, captain Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 102, while nightwatchman Khurram Shehzad held his ground at 8 not out. Babar Azam was dismissed for a well-made 81, falling short of what could have been a vital century.

Pakistan still needs 208 runs to avoid an innings defeat, with the task of saving the match resting on the shoulders of Shan Masood and the remaining batting lineup.

The fourth day promises to be a thrilling battle as Pakistan seeks to fight back against a dominant South African side and keep their hopes alive in the series.
