According to the latest reports, the PTI’s stance on the October 4 long march remains unchanged, while the second round of talks between the government and the opposition is also ongoing. Therefore, it is more correct to clearly state the party’s stance, talks and possible progress separately in the news.
PTI’s long march, meeting with founder become important issues in the talks
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has maintained its stance on the issue of the proposed long march towards Islamabad on October 4. The protest program, ongoing talks with the government and the current political situation were discussed in the party leadership meeting. During this, various proposals regarding the future of the long march were also discussed.
A briefing was given in the PTI’s political and core committee meeting regarding the government talks. Barristers Gauhar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja informed the members about the status of the talks. The question was also considered in the meeting whether the date of the protest should be changed in case of progress in the talks or it should be carried forward according to the current program.
According to party sources, the issue of meeting with the PTI founder was also given importance in the meeting. The PTI has taken the position that the party leadership should meet the founder before deciding to end or postpone the long march. This issue is also likely to be discussed in the talks with the government.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has also maintained his stance regarding the October 4 march. According to him, the march will be started as per the scheduled program. The party is calling it a political and peaceful protest.
On the other hand, the process of talks between the government and the opposition is also ongoing. Representatives of both sides held talks again on Saturday under the chairmanship of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Various issues including the political situation and the long march were discussed in the talks.
Earlier, the government representatives also took the position that the announcement of the long march should be withdrawn in order to create a conducive environment for talks. In response, the PTI has presented its conditions and reservations in the talks process. Thus, the protest and the talks are moving forward at the same time.
In the current situation, the main focus is on whether the talks between the government and the PTI reach an acceptable progress or not. If there is any significant progress in the talks, its impact on the protest schedule may come to the fore. At present, the PTI has not revealed the final decision to change the march announcement, while the talks are also ongoing.
