In a major step under the anti-smog campaign, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has demolished an industrial unit in Lahore that was responsible for emitting dangerous levels of pollution.
A large number of carbon-filled sacks and illegally stored industrial equipment were seized during the operation. The authorities also detained those resisting the EPA team, and their weapons were handed over to the police for legal action.
According to official sources, the factory continued its harmful activities despite being issued several warnings and notices. Laboratory reports have confirmed that its operations are playing a significant role in the toxic air pollution in the city. The kilns were found to be operational upon the team’s arrival and were immediately shut down on the spot.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reiterated her government’s commitment to zero tolerance against industries violating environmental laws. He said special monitoring teams are actively inspecting industrial areas round the clock to ensure compliance.
In an official statement, the government stressed that those who harm the environment will not be spared. Strict legal action will be taken against all industrial elements involved in breaking seals or polluting the air.
Officials added that the province-wide crackdown on polluting factories will continue indiscriminately, and all units have been directed to follow eco-friendly SOPs to protect public health.
