Punjab’s landmark housing project “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” has started creating significant social change in the province, where more than 35,000 families have moved into their completed houses so far.
A spokesperson for the Housing Department said that a total of more than one lakh people have benefited from the project, while the construction of houses for more than 72,000 families is in full swing. According to the spokesperson, the government has allocated more than Rs 142 billion for the project so that even low-income families can build their own houses on easy terms.
The spokesperson said that the interest-free loan for 9 years is a facility that has turned the hopes of thousands of poor and middle-class people into reality. The target has been set to provide loans to another five lakh families in the next five years.
He further said that under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, this programme is not only bringing a revolution in the housing sector but is also significantly increasing the activities of the construction industry, especially in rural areas, where the trend of permanent housing has accelerated.
