Pakistan and China have raised a joint alarm over the safety of international trade routes, specifically demanding the protection of the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent maritime passages. In a joint statement released by the Foreign Office, both nations described these routes as “vital arteries” for global trade and the world’s energy supply.
The two allies called for the urgent restoration of safe passage for stranded vessels and their crews in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising that the movement of commercial and civilian ships must be guaranteed without delay. Beyond maritime security, the statement placed heavy emphasis on the protection of critical infrastructure, including:
- Energy and Power Installations
- Desalination Plants
- Peaceful Nuclear Infrastructure
The Foreign Office spokesperson noted that both Beijing and Islamabad have demanded an immediate end to attacks on civilians and non-military targets. By prioritising the safety of energy supplies and maritime trade, Pakistan and China aim to prevent a global economic shock resulting from regional instability.
