Despite hopes for a possible understanding between the United States and Iran, there are significant discrepancies in the statements of the two sides, raising the question of whether a major agreement is really close or whether the talks are still in an uncertain phase.

US President Donald Trump, describing the recent developments as important, has indicated that a decisive stage is near. US officials are also talking about progress in the talks, after which a positive reaction was seen in global financial markets and oil prices were recorded as relatively soft.

However, statements coming out of Tehran paint a different picture. Iranian officials say that no final agreement has been reached yet and differences remain on several fundamental issues. Iranian sources have described some US claims as exaggerated, saying that a consensus has not yet been reached on several sensitive points.

According to analysts, the real differences lie on issues such as the lifting of sanctions, frozen Iranian assets, nuclear activities and the security of the Strait of Hormuz. These are the points that will determine the success or failure of any final agreement.

The Strait of Hormuz is of exceptional importance to the global economy, as a large amount of the world’s oil and gas passes through it. Energy markets have been under constant pressure due to recent tensions. That is why investors are viewing diplomatic announcements with great sensitivity.

Political experts say that both countries are also taking into account domestic political factors. Washington wants an agreement that will help it present it as a diplomatic success, while Iran sees any such progress in the context of its national sovereignty and strategic interests.

Pakistan’s role in all this is also gaining attention. Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga’s recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts indicates that Islamabad is playing a constructive role in regional coordination. According to experts, Pakistan’s support for the negotiating environment could prove important for peace in the region.

Although diplomatic activities have increased in recent days, current realities show that many obstacles remain to reaching a final agreement. This is why the international community is calling the next few days extremely important, because this period could determine the next phase of US-Iran relations.
