Diplomatic activities have intensified to end the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East, while several mediator countries are busy trying to reduce tensions between the two sides and pave the way for negotiations. Iranian officials have also confirmed that diplomatic proposals have been received from various countries, which are being considered.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said in a weekly news briefing that several friendly and intermediary countries are continuously in diplomatic contact to reduce tensions in the region. According to him, Iran has received various proposals, and they are being reviewed, keeping in mind national interests, regional stability and the current situation.
Esmail Baghai said that it would not be appropriate to view the current situation only in the context of war or only negotiations. He said that Iran will give primary importance to its national interests, regional peace and international laws in every possible decision and that the future strategy will be formulated on this basis.
The spokesman accused the United States of the recent military operations against Iran, saying that these measures were unnecessary and that they also affected the existing reconciliation arrangements. He said that Iran will continue to highlight its position in international forums.
Esmail Baqai expressed concern over the targeting of civilian infrastructure, including medical centres, water facilities, and bridges, saying that such actions are not consistent with international humanitarian law and that the protection of civilian facilities is the responsibility of all parties.
He also reiterated that Iran has not completely closed the door to possible negotiations with the United States but that national interests and the country’s sovereignty will be given top priority in any future talks.
According to analysts, due to the ongoing tensions in the region, various countries are trying to defuse the conflict through diplomatic means. They say that if these mediation efforts move forward, new avenues of communication between the two countries may open in the future, but any progress will depend on the parties’ future decisions and the situation on the ground.
