There has been no major change in the US dollar rate in Pakistan; however, the price difference between the interbank and open market remains. The current situation in the currency market has come to light at a time when remittances from Pakistanis abroad have also recorded a strong increase.
According to the latest rates provided, the buying price of the dollar in the interbank market is Rs 277.60, while the selling price is Rs 278.10. The US currency is being bought at Rs 278.50 in the open market and sold at Rs 278.75.
Recent business data also suggests relatively limited volatility in the rupee. On August 10, the rupee closed at Rs 277.70 against the dollar in the interbank market, which was a slight improvement over the previous session.
This trend in the currency market is important for Pakistan’s economy because the value of the dollar affects matters related to import payments, business costs and external debt. In the event of a sudden weakness in the rupee, the cost of imported goods and raw materials from abroad can increase, while a relatively stable exchange rate provides some financial planning convenience to the business community.
On the other hand, changes in the value of the dollar have a different impact on exporters, as a large part of their income is earned in foreign currency. Similarly, Pakistani businesses and individuals who make payments abroad are also affected by the exchange rate between the rupee and the dollar.
In the current situation, remittances from Pakistanis abroad have emerged as an important economic factor. According to the latest data from the State Bank, workers’ remittances in July 2026 were $3.631 billion, up 13 percent from the same month last year and 4.5 percent more than in June.
An increase in remittances is considered important for Pakistan’s external sector as it increases the inflow of foreign exchange into the country. The current dollar rate is also important for Pakistanis living abroad, as their remittances are converted into rupees to meet the expenses, education, housing and other needs of their families in Pakistan.
However, it will not be correct to judge the overall direction of the Pakistani economy from the daily rate of the dollar alone. Exports, imports, remittances, global financial conditions and the balance of external payments all together affect the value of the rupee.
The increasing volume of remittances in the current data is a positive aspect, but a balance between constant foreign exchange inflows and external payments is also necessary for the rupee to maintain long-term stability.
Rates of different banks and exchange companies in the market may vary slightly, while changes in the value of the dollar are also possible during business hours. According to the rates provided, the dollar is currently between Rs 277.60 and Rs 278.10 in the interbank and Rs 278.50 and Rs 278.75 in the open market.
